Netherlands-headquartered travel and leisure activity booking platform Emesa yesterday let go of its entire Berlin team. Currently active in Germany under the brand name Aladoo, we hear that, at least for the time being, the company’s German activities will now be handled from its Dutch headquarters.
Emesa, which is the market leader in the Netherlands, launched in Germany in September 2011 and opened an office in Cologne. In the middle of last year the team then moved to Berlin, under the direction of new managing director Michael Stephan.
In 2013, the company claimed “Emesa Germany will employ around 50 staff members in its Berlin headquarters by the end of the year”. This, however, never happened – at last count, around 30 people made up the German team. The redundancies began two weeks ago, with Germany managing director Stephan the first to be let go – followed yesterday by his former team. So far, we haven’t been able to reach the company for an official comment.
Aladoo stands out from its competitors as all of its offers begin at zero Euros – users bid against each other to win activities such as concert tickets, three-course meals, flight tickets or photo shootings.
