Get your brain going and ideas flowing because Amazon Web Services (AWS) has its Global Startup Challenge coming up which could just give you the cash you need to get your idea off the ground. It’s all organized by AWS, a website that offers IT infrastructure services to businesses in the form of web services, otherwise known as cloud computing.
Four prize winners will receive $50,000 cash, along with $50,000 in AWS credits, plus invaluable introductions to VCs (think big names like Accel, Andreessen Horowitz, NEA) and PR support. They’re looking for a winner in four different categories: big data and high-performance computing, gaming, consumer applications and business applications. The competition is only open to startups that have been using AWS services, with particular emphasis on the creativity and originality of the businesses.
One of last year’s winners, social marketing business Booshaka, saw a big boost in interest after their success at AWS: “Since then, over 150,000 brands and businesses have chosen Booshaka as the social marketing solution to help them understand and engage their fans, and amplify their activity,” said CEO Erik Ober.
There are cash prizes for semi-finalists too. And you get a $25 AWS credit just for entering, so you there is no harm in trying. The competition is open to startups globally and the final entry date is on November 9, with the last round of judging in San Francisco in January next year. Apply here.
