Today Rocket Internet-operated Foodpanda has announced its takeover of Hungarian food delivery site Ételvitel KFT. The acquisition shows Foodpanda’s aggressive expansion in emerging markets is continuing at speed.
Ételvitel KFT has reportedly over 200 partner restaurants in Budapest alone, which will undoubtedly help Foodpanda strengthen and expand its position in the Hungarian market.
The announcement comes only a couple of months after Foodpanda opened up its service in a slew of new countries – including Hungary – and launched a mobile app available in 21 countries.
“Foodpanda is a global movement, rolling out fast to provide the greatest variety of food in over 25 countries. More steps will follow: We are ready to grow and become number one in every market,” said Foodpanda’s Global Managing Director Ralf Wenzel in a statement.
While Foodpanda’s ambitions are clear the service still as a ways to go: As of now, the online food delivery platform has focused only on markets in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. Major rival Delivery Hero – which is also headquartered in Berlin – is also present in Asia and Eastern Europe, as well as North America, Western Europe and Scandinavia.
