GetYourGuide, a booking platform for professional tours, has won the second SevenVentures Pitch Day at London’s Noah Conference. The startup took away €4m worth of media advertising on the channels owned by ProSiebenSat.1 – SevenVentures is the venture arm of the media corporation.
SevenVentures claims that 300 startups applied for the competition, with seven pitching for prizes. Second prize went to smart heating device Tado, founder Leopold von Bismarck received €2m worth of media advertising, while a social money transfer service Azimo received €1m.
Other startups that competed include Checkrobin, a private transport system for goods, Eyeglass24, an online lens shop, Mygola, a journey planning service and Berlin’s Outfittery, a curated menswear online store. Last year’s competition was won by social network for language learning Busuu.
Among the judges was business angel Christophe Maire, Holtzbrinck Ventures partner Rainer Maerkle, Accel Partners principal Michiel Kotting and an online community of viewers.
GetYourGuide is headquartered in Zurich but also has offices in Berlin and Las Vegas. After taking over Gidsy, the Berlin-based “Airbnb for experiences”, GetYourGuide recently acquired defunct New York-based company iGottaGuide in a bid to expand in the US. At the moment, the US market makes up a double-digit percentage of GetYourGuide’s revenue.
