The leaked email from Groupon HQ that we shared with you last week garnered a series of fervent reactions from the business community both here in Germany and in the US. In the HackerNews forum one reader linked to a particularly relevant cinematic analogy.
Word is that certain individuals in the community are preparing a documentary on the Berlin startup scene. Could we see scenes reminiscent of the ones immortalised by Alec Baldwin in Glen Garry Glen Ross?
A Rolex-watch wearing, smooth-talking Baldwin yells at a room full of aging real estate salesmen until, in a final gesture, he pulls out a set of brass balls on chain and leaves. The character Blake, almost earning Baldwin an Oscar, is an intimidation machine that some would call a “well-meditated salesman,” and reminded at least one of our readers (and us) of some key players in this discussion.
