Klarna co-founder Sebastian Siemiatkowski, the keynote speaker at Berlin’s upcoming Heureka! conference, knew he had a winner well before GP Bullhound named his startup this year’s Billion Dollar Company.

Klarna – from startup to billion dollar company

Siemiatkowski and two friends from the Stockholm School of Economics founded after-delivery payment solution Klarna in 2005. Since then, the company has expanded to over 400 employees, raised over $155 million in series C funding last year, and is rapidly becoming a big enough international player to take on the likes of global giant PayPal.

So when were Siemiatkowski’s ‘Heureka! moments? “I was going to buy flowers for my girlfriend online,” he says, recalling one of many. He still used his credit card to pay online despite years of working with the Klarna model. He couldn’t find it, and then saw the Klarna logo. “I felt like “yes, we are really doing something great.”

Siemiatkowski will join 40 other internationally renowned speakers at the Heureka! conference on May 7 in Berlin to share their knowledge of startups, investors, incubators, mobile, e-commerce, internationalisation, rising trends – everything a young company needs for the best possible chance of success.

Speed pitch applications close tonight

Remember – applications for Heureka!’s speed-pitching session close at midnight tonight. If you win a spot, you’ll get access to one of two groups of top VCs (six for early stage funding, six for late stage funding). You don’t need a Heureka! ticket to apply for the session but you will need one to take up your place – and will be able to claim our startup discount if you haven’t already done so.

How startups can buy tickets

It’s a two-step process:

  1. Apply for a startup code
  2. Buy a Heureka! conference ticket
