New “startup launchpad” HY Berlin is partnering with Deutsche Telekom and Axel Springer to send three founders to Silicon Valley, with one €10,000 cash prize also up for grabs.
As part of Media Entrepreneurs Day 2012 (16 October), HY Berlin is inviting startups to pitch to a panel of jury experts, moderated by The Kernel‘s Milo Yiannopoulos. The winner will receive €10,000 courtesy of Deutsche Telekom’s incubator hub:raum.
The CEOs of the three best teams will also be flown to the San Francisco Bay Area for a week, where they’ll meet Axel Springer’s Silicon Valley research team (Martin Sinner, Kai Diekmann & Peter Würtenberger) and get to know what makes the Valley tick.
All teams that make it to the pitch competition will also be offered a wildcard entry to hub:raum’s 8 week startup accelerator program from November to January (mentoring and office space in Berlin, no strings attached).
The competition is open to web and mobile startups not older than two years and with up to €1million in VC funding. HY Berlin’s selection panel will be looking for entrepreneurs trying to solve a global problem and address a global market, and will assess:
- disruptiveness of product
- team composition
- feasibility and business model
- attractiveness of addressed market
Applications close on 30 September. For more details, and what to expect during the pitch competition, check the HY Berlin website. Startups interested in spending time in the Valley should also check out the German Silicon Valley Accelerator programme.
