In just one week, IBM will be bringing some of the continent’s top startups together for exclusive pitch competition, conference and networking event SmartCamp EMEA in Berlin (13-14 November 2012).

SmartCamp is a global programme which is itself part of IBM’s wider Global Entrepreneurs Programme. The Berlin event is the site of this year’s European finals, following on from events in Barcelona, Istanbul, Munich, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Moscow, Dublin, Derry, London and Paris.

The winner of the Berlin event will go on to compete at the world SmartCamp finals in New York, against peers drawn from a total 23 countries.

Watch the sessions, make contacts – and apply

While it’s a little late to enter the pitch finals in November, the networking opportunities will be almost as worth it for those who join the open day on 14 November for the keynote sessions and to cheer on the pitch finalists. Admission is free but tickets – available now – are limited.

Tariq Krim

Confirmed speakers on the open day include Tariq Krim, the co-founder and CEO of personal cloud computing pioneer Jolicloud – backed by Niklas Zennström’s Atomico and Mangrove Capital. Before this latest venture, Krim founded Netvibes and worked as a journalist for France’s Le Tribune. In 2008, the MIT Technology Review recognised Krim as one of the world’s “Top Innovators Under 35″.

For next year’s entrants and this year’s onlookers – all European startups less than five years old, privately-owned and working on a software product are eligible to apply for SmartCamp. The judges will be looking for “technology solutions that are real and help the world work smarter”.

What’s the programme for Berlin?

SmartCamp EMEA will be held at the rather fine Radisson Blu Hotel Berlin on Karl-Liebknecht-Strasse 3 (pictured above, top). The first day, 13 November, will be a private day for the ten pitch finalists to receive mentoring workshops and lectures. The fun for ticket holders and invited guests will kick off at 12.30 on 14 November.
