Kamicat, based in Hanover and with offices in Berlin and Barcelona, is the maker of Kamicat Football, a live-action game for Facebook that launched in 2012. The game’s makers claim it has about five million registered users; MetricsMonk estimates the current monthly active users for its latest version at just over 1.2 million.
iVentureCapital cofounder and CEO Michael Reul – an enthusiastic Kamicat Football player – said in a statement that the quality of that title convinced the firm to invest in the company behind it. The terms and size of the deal weren’t disclosed.
“Kamicat Football’s staggering growth on Facebook over the past several months is largely due to viral effects,” Kamicat cofounder Christoph Reisner (right) added. “Players spend above-average amounts of time with our game – a combination of football action simulation and management – and recommend it to their friends.”
The company won’t be relying on that though – as announced today, Kamicat is teaming up with marketing network TrafficCaptain to push the game as it works to bring out a mobile version this year.
Kamicat and The Football App – touch of footy fever among investors in Germany?
Today’s news follows Earlybird Capital’s recent €10m investment in “hidden champion” THE Football App, an app-based network for football fans. With the lead-up to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil now in full swing, the timing of the deals is easy to understand.
iVentureCapital’s investments – in addition to Kamicat and TrafficCaptain – include Farbflut Entertainment, Infernum, Kamcord and BillingPartner. It specialises in the games industry and has offices in Hamburg, Miami and Vienna.
