Berlin-based company builder Rocket Internet today launched real estate classified website Lamudi in twelve countries across Asia, Africa and Latin America. Further launches are planned over coming weeks and months.
It’s not a new operation for Rocket – over the last five months, it launched real estate portals in emerging markets under a variety of titles including Vamido in Africa, Ubilista in Latin America and Zamudi and “House” in Asia. The company builder says the new name is simply a rebranding to aid the company’s global roll-out.
Lamudi offers house hunters properties to rent or buy and allows customers to sell houses, apartments, commercial property and land. At the moment, the website is available in Algeria, Bangladesh, Colombia, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, Myanmar, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Uganda.
The move is another aggressive push by Rocket Internet into markets where they face little competition – the company builder claims Lamudi reached market leadership in a number of countries shortly after going online. It’s not without competition – in Nigeria, for example, rivals include PrivateProperty and Property24 (backed by Naspers).
Rocket Internet’s strategy tends to centre on taking successful business models and launching them in emerging markets – along with Lamudi’s roll-out, it is also testing its taxi booking service Easy Taxi in Pakistan and has just launched the app in Africa, and is working on expanding food delivery service Hellofood in the Middle East.
