mCommerce startup Shopgate receives “high seven-digit” funding from Creathor and Northcap

Mobile commerce platform Shopgate has closed a “high seven-digit dollar” Series B funding round from existing investors, Germany’s Creathor Venture, and Danish VC Northcap.

Launched in 2011 in Butzbach, Germany, and Palo Alto, Shopgate develops customised native iOS and Android apps and mobile sites for online retailers to optimise their mCommerce offering.

Merchants can embed their shop in the Shopgate iPhone Marketplace, where users can browse through all shops on the app. It claims to be the global market leader in providing mCommerce services, with 5000 merchants using the platform. The latest funding will be used to accelerate its expansion – with a focus on the US market – and add key members to its mCommerce team.

On the investment, Marc Biel from Creathor Venture said: “Mobile commerce will become a $150b plus market in the next three years. However, besides eBay or  Amazon only very few companies have been able to build a solid and successful company in this industry.”
