Russia’s Mail.RU founder invests in robot marketplace RobotAppStore

Global investment company Grishin Robotics, led by Russian co-founder and CEO of Mail.RU Group Dmitry Grishin, has today invested $250,000 into RobotAppStore; the first online marketplace for buying and downloading apps to boost the functionality of robots.

From Roomba vacuum cleaners to humanoids, the personal and domestic robotics market is a rapidly growing industry which is estimated to hit the $18 billion mark in 2015.

On the platform, owners of robots can download apps to keep their robots up-to-date, while developers can make money from their applications.

RobotAppStore claims that more than 30 million programmable robots have been sold to date. “Robotics is a combination of good hardware and software – thus, the important role of a project like the RobotAppStore in the market ecosystem is unquestionable,” said Grishin.

“The robotics industry has reached its tipping point with broad market acceptance, usability of robots, and the ability to extend the robots’ capabilities,” said Elad Inbar, founder and CEO of RobotAppStore.
