Wifi, Coffee, and Sun! Where to work this summer in Berlin

A great advantage to working in the digital industry is that all we need is our laptop and wifi to get going. While the sun is out, many want to escape the office and work outside.

Many places offer free wifi for their customers these days. While some want to attract tourists, others offer this service to invite customers to stay longer and work there.

If you want to spend your day with like minded, concentrated people, without being disturbed, go to St. Oberholz. The free wifi place that also sells coffee and food is perfect for that. It has many power outlets, tables full of people typing, skyping and basically working all day long. It’s at Torstraße, in the center of Mitte, and actually more like a co-working space café. An alternative would be co-working spaces like betahaus.

The places we picked don’t mind people with laptops, but these are spots people usually go to enjoy time off. This means, during particularly busy hours, don’t take the biggest table and use the space two entire families could sit at.

Also, cafés aren’t overly concerned about providing enough power outlets. So, don’t be surprised if you don’t find many right away. Remember to always bring your devices fully charged.

There are many spots like these in Berlin – here are just five of our favorites. You find them below and also on the Foursquare list that we will continue to fill during this summer. Recommendations? Feel free to comment below!

Strandbad Mitte

Kleine Hamburger Str. 16, 10117 Berlin

Not the cheapest place, but fair enough for Mitte. The friendly stuff doesn’t mind to hand out the wifi code. You have sun and shadow places to work from and great coffee. The area is quiet. You’ll hear the music from the inside of the café as well as the birds. Comfortable and cosy and a great way to start your day  – especially with an omelette (starting at €5.30).

Salon Schmück

Skalitzer Str. 80, 10997 Berlin

This very cute place is located in Kreuzberg. While the outside is pretty, the inside is great to hang out in as well. A very cosy atmosphere, nice staff and very comfortable seats and sofas. Coffee starts at € 1.50. Tip: There are limited power outlets, but you can find some right in front by the window. Worth a try to sit outside and charge from the inside.

No Fire No Glory

Rykestr. 45, 10405 Berlin

Small, very cute coffee (and evening drinks) place with open wifi. It is quiet and in a very beautiful neighborhood. A personal favorite spot is the bench under the tree, but every other spot and the inside are also very beautiful. The coffee is named the best in town many times on Foursquare. The neighborhood offers many restaurants and shops.

Mangelwirtschaft is not only a place for coffee, breakfast, lunch, cake and wifi, but also to get your laundry done. While the washing machines are running in the back of the location, in the front and outside you’ll find a café.  You’ll see a few cars passing by, but overall the atmosphere is calm and quiet.

Kiautschoustr. 12a, 13353 Berlin

Great for breakfast and quiet. Near water and a playground, you’ll hardly have any cars passing by and can spend time in the sun until the evening. The staff is nice and the homemade lemonade delicious. If you need a break, walk down to the river and sit in the grass or enjoy some time on the swing.
