Complete with personalised dubstep soundtrack, TechCrunch Disrupt Europe kicked off in Berlin over the weekend with an inaugural 24-hour hackathon – and self-explanatory app Foursquare PreCheck-In took away the main prize.
Along with a $5,000 check, Foursquare PreCheck-In, which lets users share locations they’re planning on visiting with their friends, gets the chance to present its product at the main conference event today and tomorrow. The team plans on making revenue by integrating services such as airlines and hotels into the app, targeting potential customers as they plan their trip.
The two runners up were Teleapp, a Chrome extension that recognises links to the app store on web pages and pushes them to smartphones, and A Colorful Gift, which allows couples getting married to crowdfund their honeymoon among friends.
Ninety-one teams took part in the hackathon, each given 60 seconds to present their hacks to a panel of judges, made up of Hubraum founder Peter Borchers, Microsoft’s Anika Klauss, SoundCloud VP of Engineering Alexander Grosse and GetYourGuide cofounder Johannes Reck. All teams won tickets to the two-day Disrupt conference. Hackathon sponsors including Box, CrunchBase, T-Mobile, Foursquare, Lufthansa and Paymil provided additional prizes for their favourite hack.
