UPDATE Berlin startup Twisper has gone through major restructuring over the past few weeks. According to online magazine Deutsche Startups, 12 staff members have been let go, most of them from the marketing and sales departments. Twisper COO Darius Moeini, who cofounded the company last year, also chose to leave the company following a disagreement with the rest of the management team on the strategic and operative direction of the company.
Moeini founded Twisper in August 2012 together with CEO David de Brito and Thomas Sterchi. The startup offers a mobile location scout for iOS and Android. Based on individual users’ favourite restaurants, bars, hotels and shops, which they enter when they sign up, Twisper finds other places that should suit their tastes. The content is created by Twisper itself, along with “Twisper Ambassadors” – who are travellers from around the world.
Twisper users decide if they want to sign up using Facebook and get recommendations from their friends or, if they want, rely on Twisper’s suggestions. These suggestions are generated by the app using the favourite places provided in the registration along with users’ overlapping favourites with other Twisper members and key words associated with the locations.
At the moment, the location scout offers suggestions for 71 cities in different continents. According to de Brito, the team is currently at 13 employees and the company at 6000 registered users.
