Wooga looks to GDC for new talent

Berlin-based social game developers Wooga, will head to San Francisco’s Games Developers Conference (GDC) this week to scour the scene for promising talent within the gaming industry.

The GDC is the world’s largest and longest-running game industry event for professionals.

Founder and CEO Jen Begemann will be holding a speakers session entitled ‘Growing Out of Europe’ to talk about lessons learned from starting a social games company.

“2011 was an exciting year for Wooga where we saw our first successful jump to mobile  that brought a truly social games experience to that platform,” he said. “Our focus now is to bring talent from all over the world to Berlin, and join our international team of employees. GDC is the perfect place to find those people and help us make the best, most social games in the world.”

The company’s biggest rival Zynga, which is the world’s leading games developer, announced on Saturday that it will start its own social games platform that allows players to go beyond their network of Facebook friends.

Zynga currently has 227 million monthly users playing games such as FarmVille and Zynga Poker while Wooga’s currently sitting on 40 million monthly users.

Wooga, the world’s third-largest social games developer, plans to add 100 employees to its team by the end of the year.
