Startupbootcamp Launches New Smart Transportation & Energy Accelerator In Berlin and San Francisco

The Berlin-based accelerator Startupbootcamp announced today the launch of its new program called Smart Transportation & Energy – The Connected and Efficient Mobility of People and Goods. The new program, which Startupbootcamp claims is the first of its kind, will be offered in San Francisco and Berlin. The expected launch for the US program is in early 2015.

Startupbootcamp Smart Transportation & Energy will run similar to how Startupbootcamp has been operating since its launch in Berlin in March 2012. Ten startups will be chosen at each location to enter the accelerator for three months. The program will now seek startups with a focus on topics such smart mobility and vehicles, logistics and supply, location-based services, and sustainable energy.

To help make the accelerator a global success, Startupbootcamp Smart Transportation & Energy has already brought on a list of partners including Nokia’s global maps and location intelligence business HERE, automobile corporation Daimler, and engineering and electronics company Bosch.

We asked Startupbootcamp Cofounder Alex Farcet about the inspiration behind this pivot: “In my previous life, I worked for DHL and Deutsche Post, and I'm super inspired by what Elon Musk is doing, by what Uber & Lyft have achieved, by startups like Local Motion and Peloton.  So we think it's unique, timely and super relevant to the world's biggest problems.”

Startupbootcamp Berlin will now focus solely on this new vertical program. According to Farcet, however, we should keep our eyes out for a possible second Berlin program. At the moment, the accelerator is exploring the topic of Digital Health.
